Brandon Gaede was 30 years old when a call to arrest a subject became the final act of his eight-year service. On June 27, 2025, the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office lost its undersheriff to gunfire in Phillipsburg, Kansas—a public servant who went to confront danger and did not come home. His death leaves a wife and three children to carry a grief that cannot be measured by a badge number, a rank, or a line in a memorial record. It also leaves a community facing the brutal unfairness of a life taken while Gaede was doing work meant to protect others.
